We are excited to announce the public phase of the Fulfilling the Strategic Vision campaign for Cathedral School for Boysa $20 million effort designed to support staff salaries and benefits, diversify our student body, and enhance and expand our campus.
This campaign is the result of our Strategic Plan 2017-22, which was the product of a year of work by a dedicated committee. The Plan and its bold vision for Cathedral's future was unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees in 2017. The Strategic Plan centered on three major themes:

  1. Maintaining our leadership in boys’ education so that we prepare boys for success in high school and in an increasingly complicated world;
  2. Fostering a community that attracts and supports talented educators and staff and that remains accessible to all qualified students;
  3. Improving the use of learning space to support innovative educational approaches that prepare our students for success and leadership in the world.

In the past three years, we have made tremendous progress on all of these goals. We have implemented a Co-Lead teaching model in the Lower School, established an endowed master teaching chair to support teaching excellence, and enhanced staff salary and benefits to attract and maintain the finest professional staff. In addition, student diversity has increased, and we have launched a scholarship program designed to attract high-achieving, underrepresented students to our middle school. And in the summer of 2019, we created a state-of-the-art Upper School science suite.

    • The new 7th & 8th science lab, a model for our renovated classrooms

We have a great deal to show for our efforts. However, the final, and in many ways, the most complicated, component of our plan remains. This summer, we hope to begin construction on a two-story addition to the terracethe space between the School and Grace Cathedral. At the same time, we will undertake a complete renovation of the classrooms in the main school building. In order to go through with this extensive work, we have been quietly raising the funds needed to accomplish these objectives.
    • An aerial view of the School with a rendering of the new addition on the right.

    • A Plaza view of the School with a rendering of the new addition between the Cathedral and the existing School building.

In December of 2020, we reached our initial $20 million goal—the largest fundraising effort in Cathedral School's history.

Now that construction is drawing near, we are launching the Public Phase of the Fulfilling the Strategic Vision campaign. This is an opportunity for everyone in our community to contribute to this transformative project, and to ensure that every Cathedral student, present and future, will benefit from it.
    • A rendering of the new School entrance, with views through to Grace Cathedral.

    • A view of the new Lower School learning commons that will be part of the Terrace Addition.

This project will transform our School. Our boys will benefit from classrooms that better support the modern instructional approaches that are used by our faculty. Our teachers will benefit from additional space to support group and project-based work. Furthermore, our community will benefit from a carefully-designed addition that will reflect the welcoming, open place we know Cathedral to be.

I continue to believe that our School is providing one of the most compelling and necessary educational experiences in the country. With your support, we will be positioned to continuing doing so well into the future.
