About Matt Richtel...
After writing for smaller newspapers, Richtel joined the New York Times staff in 2000. With an initial focus on “all things” technology and various aspects of business, he eventually went on to also cover climate change.
In 2009, the Times published his in-depth series on distracted driving, which earned Richtel the Pulizter Prize for National Reporting in 2010.
Since then, Richtel has written a series for the Times on the science of heavy computer use; computer use in schools; rise of obesity around the globe; and, in 2019, the rise of drug-resistant infections.
A Times best-selling author, Richtel also writes both non-fiction narratives as well as fiction and children’s stories. His first novel, Hooked, debuted in 2009 and his latest work is titled Dead on Arrival. Richtel previously penned the daily comic strip, “Rudy Park.”
Richtel grew up in Boulder, Colorado and is a graduate of both UC Berkeley and the School for Journalism at Columbia University. He lives in San Francisco with his wife and two children.
On January 29, 2020, Richtel will speak to attendees on the topic of screen time and our kids. Stay tuned for more details and information and save the date.
