For more than 60 years, Cathedral has inspired intellectual curiosity and a passion for learning in boys in Kindergarten through eighth grade. We are committed to fostering the spiritual, intellectual, and character growth of each student. We do this with a committed faculty who possess a deep understanding of how boys learn. With 264 boys, we are the optimal size for a Kindergarten through eighth grade school. In our close-knit community, boys not only learn to think critically, but creatively and independently as well. Cathedral boys are held to the highest standards and receive an excellent education.

You may hear us before you see us. As you approach the Cathedral School for Boys campus, you may hear pounding feet as boys race from their cars to school in the morning — before slowing down to shake Headmaster Jones' hand. You'll probably hear the peals of laughter as boys play on the roof soccer pitch and basketball courts, or engage in imaginative play with one another. You may hear wind and brass instruments warming up, or boys' voices harmonizing in choir. A little later in the day, you may hear seventh graders leaving campus in a group for their weekly service learning at a neighboring school or organization. Lean in closely enough, and you may just hear eighth graders in Mandarin or Spanish class in dialogue, or a first grader sharing his family's favorite activity. At Cathedral, boys are challenged and learning is active, engaging, and fun.

As an Episcopal school nestled on the grounds of Grace Cathedral — a building of breathless architecture and unparalleled beauty — we strive for diversity of thought, experience, and perspective. Families of all faiths, cultures, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds are welcomed and celebrated here. Boys enter high school prepared for rigorous academics as well as the challenges of life, and with respect for all people.

I know that you may be feeling anxious about applying to a new school for your son this year. You may have lots of questions. As a fellow parent, I understand your fears. As an educator, I can assure you that we are doing everything we can to make this a safe, fair, and equitable experience for you and your son. This summer we have been re-imagining a virtual admissions season that will allow you to get to know us and for us to get to know you.

Cathedral School for Boys has always been a community that values personal relationships and ensures that every guest we welcome feels seen and heard. This admissions season is not going to be any different. It is extremely important to us that you feel comfortable, that you are able to learn about what makes Cathedral such a special place, and that all of your questions and concerns are answered. Equally important, we want to get to know you and your son and all of the things that makes your family unique.

Selecting the right school for your son is an important decision. So what makes Cathedral School for Boys special? The first step to learning more about Cathedral is to complete an Inquiry Form. The Inquiry Form for the 2021-2022 academic year will be released on September 3, 2020. This will give you access to virtual events through which you can get to know us better. See for yourself; we delight in showing our school to prospective parents. We look forward to meeting you.

Warmly,

Director of Admission
