  • Demystifying the High School Application Process

    Kyle: Thank you for taking the time today to talk about the important work you do with our seventh- and eighth-grade students and families, Kristen. Why don’t we start with your telling us what brought you to Cathedral School for Boys.
     
    Kristen: Three months after I graduated from college, I started teaching history at an all-girls boarding school in Upstate New York. I was so lucky to start my teaching career at a boarding school because it is such an immersive environment. I got to know my students so well seeing them in different capacities, in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the dorms. Knowing my students outside of class made the classroom teaching easier and more rewarding. I taught at that school for three years, and then I came back to California, where I grew up. I taught at an independent, co-ed high school in Marin for five years, and then I moved to Hong Kong. Eventually, I came back to that same high school, Branson, which some of our students attend.

  • Responding to Gaza

    This past July, Father Timothy led members of our community on a trip to the Holy Land. The purpose of the trip was to experience and, through a process of education and immersion, begin to understand one of the world’s most sacred and complicated regions.
     
    To this end, the group visited Israeli and Palestinian neighborhoods and engaged in conversations with citizens and religious leaders. One of the questions most frequently posed — throughout the day in quiet conversation and when gathered as a group to reflect each evening — was how people living with such seemingly intractable differences and in such regular conflict might achieve peace. The answer remains both laudable and elusive.

  • Students vs. Faculty Basketball Match-up

    It was a nail-biter to the last second on Wednesday (June 6, 2023) as our students took on the faculty in CSB’s annual basketball match-up. The faculty took a commanding 0-10 lead in the opening minutes, but the students caught up in the second half, ultimately taking the game 43-42. Great game, guys!

  • Grade 4 Is Moving Up in the World!

    Tuesday, June 6, was a big day for both our Grade 4 and Grade 8 students! For the older boys, we held our annual and much loved Baccalaureate service, an intimate ceremony when our Grade 8 students and their families come together to reflect on their time at Cathedral and and the myriad ways in which they’ve grown while here.
