A Message from Our School Counselor: Smile And The World Will Smile With You!

In Ms. Cohen's message for distance learning week #2 she discusses the need for smiles and laughter in your household.
Dear Cathedral Community,
It has been a long 10-plus days since we have all been together. I hope your families are all feeling healthy, and hanging in there. This ride, thus far, has been a bumpy one for sure, but I, for one, have been trying to focus on some positives. One positive in my household has been family laughter. While this virus is not a funny situation, and we are all learning how to take it seriously, I do believe that laughter during this time is essential.
There are many silly videos, memes, and illustrations being shared via text, email, and social media. Most of them generate the smiles and laughter we need. Thus, I am sharing with you a sweet video that should put a smile on your face. It did mine! Watch and share it with your kids and others.
Of course there are other ways to smile and laugh together. Here are a few:
  1. Write a chalk note on the sidewalk outside your neighbor’s house.
  2. Play games like Celebrity, Headbanz, Heads Up, or Charades.
  3. Watch a funny movie together. You can refer to Common Sense Media for ideas on ones that are age-appropriate for your kids.
  4. Try a Zoom Happy Hour. This kind of socializing is trending, and is a very positive thing to do for parents who feel isolated, and just want connect with their friends.
I would love to hear what makes you smile or laugh.
Until next week,

School Counselor
