Cathedral School Boys Recognized during Math Olympiads Program

Several students in Cathedral School's 4th grade were among the nearly 150,000 students worldwide to participate this year in the Math Olympiads Program.
They participated in a series of five monthly contests from November through March, and attended weekly practice sessions under the supervision and coaching of Mr. Jimmy Santosa and Mr. Jim Schmidt. These practice sessions focused on helping the students to answer unusual and difficult problems and to think creatively to solve the five problems that appeared on each contest.

Our Cathedral School team did very well and were recognized with certificates for their participation and awards based on their individual performance on our Division E Team for grades 4 through 6.

Each year, the Math Olympiads serve over 100,000 students on over 5,000 teams nationally and about 50,000 students on 1,000 teams in more than 30 other countries. Since 1979, it has provided challenging, thought-provoking problems that stretch the abilities of students in grades 4 through 8.

We were pleased to begin our Cathedral Math Olympiad team this year with the following students: Dylan Anzel, Leo Hao, Finn Hocking, Elliott Maggiotto, Sacha North, Henry Scalise, Elias Smith, and Lucian Tann.  We look forward to continuing as a team next year with the introduction of rising 4th graders and new 5th graders who want to stay after school and solve math and logic problems.
