Fulfilling the Strategic Vision

Campaign Goals

In 2016, the Board of Trustees of Cathedral School for Boys launched an ambitious strategic planning process.
Over the course of a year, a Committee, composed of Board members, staff, alumni, and parents, engaged in a course of study that centered on one essential question: How do we provide the finest educational experience for boys anywhere?

The work consisted of interviews, parent forums, school visits, surveys, and a great deal of research and debate. What emerged was a plan, approved by the Board in 2017, that includes three overarching goals:

  1. Maintain our leadership in boys’ education so that we prepare boys for success in high school and in an increasingly complicated world.
  2. Foster a community that attracts and supports talented educators and remains accessible to all qualified students regardless of background.
  3. Improve the use of learning space, both on campus and off, to support new educational approaches and better meet the needs of boys and teachers.
With the completion of the new Learning Commons addition and classroom renovation project in 2021, we can proudly say that we have fulfilled all of the goals of our campaign - the largest in Cathedral's 65-year history. Today, our School is positioned for success into the future, able to continue its tradition of educational excellence.

We've achieved the following:

  • Completed a transformational addition to the School's building, adding nearly 6,000 square feet of instructional space
  • Renovated every existing classroom in the original building
  • Increased student diversity from 38% to 42%
  • Developed the Community Scholars Program for low-middle income students to increase ethnic and racial diversity in our Upper School
  • Implementation of the Co-Lead Teacher Model in Lower School
  • Established the Forbes’ Master Teacher Chair
  • Expanded and renovated the Upper School science suite
  • Enhanced staff salaries and benefits to ensure that we attract, retain, and develop the finest professional staff
