Head of School Search

About the Search

The Cathedral School for Boys Board of Trustees has begun the search for our next Head of School. This page serves as the central source for information about the process, including announcements, community-engagement opportunities, and key milestones.

On September 9, 2025, Board Chair Ronald Clark announced that Burns Jones will conclude his remarkable tenure as Head of School at the end of the 2025–2026 academic year. After more than a decade of dedicated leadership, Burns leaves Cathedral thriving: academically strong, financially secure, and deeply united in purpose. The coming year offers our community the opportunity to celebrate his contributions and prepare for the next chapter in Cathedral’s history.

To lead this important work, Cathedral has retained Carney, Sandoe & Associates (CS&A), an internationally recognized education search and recruitment firm with more than forty-five years of experience guiding independent schools through leadership transitions.

Our search is supported by consultants Todd Bland and Michael Robinson, both former Heads of School. Todd, Cathedral Class of ’82, brings a deep personal connection to the school, and Michael brings extensive experience in Episcopal education and interim leadership. Together they will partner with the Board and community to ensure a thorough and inclusive process.

The Board of Trustees is committed to a thoughtful, transparent, and inclusive search that reflects Cathedral’s mission and values. A Search Committee composed of trustees and school leaders is guiding the process of identifying and evaluating candidates, inviting input from faculty, staff, parents, and alumni through listening sessions and surveys this fall. Recognizing the importance of the perspectives of faculty, staff, and the leadership of Grace Cathedral, the committee has also convened advisory groups to consult at key stages of the search.

The search will unfold in several phases:

  • Community Input: Listening sessions and surveys to inform the Position Statement.
  • Position Statement: A comprehensive overview of Cathedral’s strengths, opportunities, and desired leadership qualities.
  • Candidate Recruitment & Evaluation: Confidential outreach and interviews led by the Search Committee.
  • Finalist Visits & Selection: Campus visits and feedback from all constituencies, followed by Board appointment and announcement.

With the guidance of our consultants and the collective input of our community, we are confident that Cathedral will attract an inspiring leader to carry forward our mission of educating boys of intellect, character, and purpose.
