Families exploring Upper School (Grades 5–8) options in San Francisco are invited to join us at Cathedral School for Boys for our Upper School Spring Preview, an opportunity to experience how our program prepares boys for the intellectual, social, and personal growth that defines the middle school years.
 
Cathedral School for Boys is a K–8 independent boys’ school in San Francisco. Our Upper School Spring Preview introduces families to our program for boys in Grades 5–8 and how we prepare students for the academic and personal challenges of high school and beyond.
 
At Cathedral School for Boys, we know boys. Educating boys means attending to every part of who they are as learners and people. Our teachers understand what helps boys think deeply, collaborate with purpose, take intellectual risks, and grow into confident young men.
 
In the Upper School years, Cathedral boys are challenged to think critically and engage actively across the curriculum. Learning is not a passive process here. Whether in classrooms, science labs, the rooftop field, music rooms, gym, drama space, or learning commons, our campus is alive with curiosity, conversation, and discovery.
 
Throughout their time at Cathedral School, boys’ Minds, Hearts, Hands, and Voices are nurtured with care and intention. Our goal is not only to prepare students for success in high school, but also to help them develop the character, confidence, and leadership skills that will guide them throughout their lives.
 
Many families attend this event a year or two before applying so they can begin exploring Upper School options and learning what matters most as boys enter the middle school years.

    We understand boys. We know that there are many ways to be a boy, and we approach each boy individually. We appreciate that each boy learns differently and at his own pace.
  • Why a small school? Why a small school?
    Cathedral School for Boys has deliberately remained a small school. With the intimacy of a small school of 264 boys, we are able to know each boy well.
  • Why uniforms? Why uniforms?
    Everyone wears the same clothing, not out of nostalgia but out of the belief that our dress code demonstrates a sense of purpose and diminishes displays of socio-economic status that run counter to our philosophy.

    The Episcopal approach provides experiences that offer students an understanding of religion and faith, in addition to a lens through which to view the world.
